Meeting with destiny

I am Walter D'Amico and I'm a Belgian born in Genk (Flemish part of Belgium) in 1965. My mother is Spanish and my father is Italian. Life has been kind to me! I have a wife Sandra and a daughter Anaïs. I too have my share of ups and downs, but all these 'challenges' have made me who I am today and will be in the future. Determination is a golden habit that I recommend to anyone!

At the age of 26 I met with my passion 'The Game of Tennis'. My first 4 years on the courts where very intense. Hitting thousands of balls, playing tournaments, studying the game....having a great time, but my ranking didn't improve much (do you know what I mean...I'm convinced you do)!

I looked around me and I was surprised that so many players had to put up with the same struggle. Why? Could the existing way of teaching tennis have some extra difficulties for us normal mortals? Maybe the existing methods work well for kids or those with a lot of talent? So I started my quest for answers.

My quest for answers

I went to a course to get certified as a teacher first grade, so I understood the elementary concepts for teaching tennis to kids and beginners.

After approx. 1000 hours of teaching, I began to experience how difficult it was to help my pupils to the next level of competence!

So I went to the next course and the next course and...to expand my knowledge and became a full-time student and teacher of the game.

I was determined to find a way that would speed up the learning process and through the World Wide Web I began to explore other methods in other countries and continents. Luckily for me, I was an early adopter concerning the internet and its benefits!

In my teaching I combined these different methods and after more then 6000 hours on-court and 1500 hours of studying, I developed a personal style that evolved to the Total Tennis Teaching System. It's still evolving and together with you I too will reach Mastery!

Why this website?

First of all it's fun, should there be any other reason? :-)

Second, it's part of my Purpose in Life and it's a privilege to share my passion with you!

Last but not least, I truly belief that I can help you with the information on this site to help you (that's right, you're the only one who truly can) to enjoy more our beloved sport and I sincerely hope that we shall meet one day on or off the court!

I am Walter D'Amico and born on the 24th of march 1965 in Genk (Belgium).

In that era you got the nationality of your father - Italian - so I had to wait until my 18th birthday before I could become a Belgian.  In return for this privilege I served as a section commander (Sgt) in the Armored Infantry Army.

Our credo 'Superbia et Fidelitas' from Bataljon Liberation has become a real personality trait (I recently discovered) of mine. To underline that trait I served another 10 years in the reserve Territorial Regiment of Lances. I am also a fan of their credo 'Ab Origine Fortis'.

My parents are Maria-Jesus Blanco (Baracaldo - Spain) en Francesco D'Amico 

(in memoriam Trapani - Italy).

I live with Sandra Sledz (1973) and our daughter Anaïs (2001) in a small rural village with the shortest name As since the birth of our daughter.

Intro...

After working as a electrical engineer for Ford AG and Phillips I decided in 2002 to go after my passion TEACHING Tennis.

I was already bitten for a number of years by the tennis virus and I had already followed the formal education 'assistent teacher' and 'teacher' (1st level), it was logical, for me, to become a full-time tennis coach.

Ever since I was obliged to my players and to myself to never stop learning and developing so I could be the best coach and help in the best possible way.

The formal educations in Belgium  'Instructeur B (2002-VTV)' and the Netherlands 'Trainer A (2004-KNLTB)' gave me a strong knowledgebase to compare those concepts in the field. My insights and experience grew and also my working field broaden. 

My thirst for knowledge and experience grew every day despite the two seminars per year and other formal educations in the field of soccer, swimming and volleyball.

In 2008 I committed myself to a 2 year intensively course for a level 2 coach. I went always very motivated and eager to learn despite the many sacrifices and effort that go along with that undertaken. 

Off-peak hours....

If that was not enough I also went back to school to follow a 3 years course. I graduated in 2005 as a professional bachelor 'Bedrijfsmanagement - Marketing'. De commerciële kernconcepten opgedaan in deze opleiding heb ik veelvuldig als full-time trainer in de praktijk getoetst.

Het onderwerp van mijn thesis  'Sportsponsoring op lokaal niveau' ligt natuurlijk volledig in de lijn van mijn sportieve achtergrond. Deze super interessante kennismaking met sportsponsoring zal een aantal jaren later een belangrijk rol spelen én een belangrijke wending geven aan mijn loopbaan.

Een complementaire en voorlopig laatste opleiding (2014)  is een 3 maanden durende intensieve dagopleiding als 'Vertegenwoordiger B2B'. Deze opleiding heeft mij stevige handvatten aangereikt vooral mbt 'verkooptechnieken en onderhandelen'. 

Momentum ~

De opofferingen/inspanningen om mij steeds verder te ontwikkelen hebben hun tol geëist. Mijn gezin vroeg mij om mijn aandacht te heroriënteren en deze wijze raad heb ik niet in de wind geslagen. Het gevolg was dat ik met het fulltime lesgebeuren ben gestopt in 2011. Mijn passie ben ik blijven beleven maar in beperkte mate als 'vrijwillige lesgever' op TC Bocholt.

De volgende drie jaren heb ik van 'nine to five' in een backoffice omgeving gewerkt. In die periode heb ik het gebrek aan creatieve en commerciële uitdagingen echt gemist. Deze ervaring heeft mij wel overtuigd dat ik mijn weg in en door de sport & sportmarketing zal zoeken en ga vinden.

Voor Anaïs moest ik ook een adequate trainingsomgeving vinden voor haar niveau optimaal te blijven ontwikkelen en is de samenwerking in 2011 met TC Boneput begonnen. Nu 2014 is TC Boneput slechts 1/5 van de Kim Clijsters Sport & Health Club en ben ik ook gevraagd om mijn steentje bij te dragen in het lesgebeuren dat valt onder Kim Clijsters Academy, weliswaar ook als 'vrijwilliger lesgever'. Je merkt het al ....het kriebelt enorm om de draad weer op te pakken....

Persoonlijke visie...

Mijn kennis en ervaring inzetten om:

• een leefomgeving waarin ik, samen met mijn gezin en persoonlijke relaties, de tijd en ruimte neem om te kunnen genieten van, met en door elkaar

• een leeromgeving te scheppen waarin ik mezelf steeds verder zal ontwikkelen op persoonlijk en sportief vlak 

• een bijdrage te leveren waar en wanneer deze bijdrage een meerwaarde betekent 

•  Anaïs (2001) de middelen en mogelijkheden aan te bieden om haar ontwikkeling optimaal te begeleiden en aspiraties waar te kunnen maken

Professionele visie...

Als trainer/coach

• Mijn kennis, gedrevenheid en ervaring in dienst te stellen van iedereen en van elk niveau, die zich wil ontwikkelen.

• Elke speler in zijn of haar beleving zowel op technisch, tactisch, fysisch als op mentaal vlak datgene mee te geven dat nodig is om steeds dichter bij zijn of haar doelen te geraken.

• Elke ouder bijstaan met relevante informatie bv. mbt ontwikkeling vs resultaten, de verschillende fasen die een kind doorloopt op basis van biologische leeftijd vs kalenderleeftijd, de leersnelheid dat bij elk kind verschillend is en de waarde van competitie ifv van hun kind

Als sportmakelaar

Met SvSS (Synergie via Sportsponsoring) wil ik opkomende talenten, die ondersteuning nodig hebben, matchen met ondernemers die een kosteneffectief medium willen inzetten om hun commerciële doelen te bereiken

Kosteneffectief

Sportsponsoring via SvSS is scherpschieten = zeer accuraat = kosteneffectief want je raakt enkel de roos! In tegenstelling tot andere reclamemedia waar je ook treft = precisie = niet kosteneffectief want je raakt de hele schietschijf!
